Choose the Pouch Around the Product

Flexible packaging should start with the product form, fill weight, density, and how the customer will open and close the package. Powders, gummies, coffee, snacks, capsules, and specialty goods can need different pouch heights, gussets, headspace, and seal areas. A product photograph is not enough to determine the filled dimensions.

Flat pouches, stand-up pouches, side-gusset formats, box-bottom styles, and resealable bags each create a different shelf and storage result. Tell us whether the bag is filled by hand or machine, sealed after filling, stored in a case, displayed upright, or shipped in an outer package.

Barrier, Zipper, Window, and Seal Decisions

A zipper can support repeat opening, while a tear notch can make the first opening easier. A window can show the product but may change barrier and panel decisions. Explain oxygen, moisture, light, aroma, heat, and storage requirements so the material structure is reviewed for the actual product rather than chosen from a generic pouch image.

The outer printed package is not automatically a guarantee of freshness or shelf life. The product, inner barrier layers, seal, filling method, and storage conditions all matter. Food, supplement, cannabis, cosmetic, and chemical products may have additional requirements that the responsible quality or compliance team must approve.

Print and Shelf Presentation

A pouch has front, back, side, bottom, and seal areas that should be mapped before artwork is finalized. The front can carry brand and product hierarchy, while the back may need ingredients, directions, net quantity, warnings, barcode, company information, and approved claims.

Matte, gloss, metallic, kraft-look, white, transparent, spot color, and full-color print can create different shelf effects. Request a proof that shows the pouch at filled size. A dark or transparent structure can change color, small type, and the appearance of unprinted areas.

Wholesale, Refill, and E-Commerce Programs

A wholesale pouch range needs consistent heights, fill lines, case quantities, and variant identification. A DTC program also needs an outer mailer, shipping protection, and a way to prevent the pouch from being crushed or punctured. Share the complete route so the flexible package is not asked to do an unrelated shipping job.

For a printed layer around an existing inner package, compare custom packaging sleeves. For boxed or gift formats, review custom kraft boxes and custom cardboard gift boxes when those structures better fit the product experience.
